Christian Ertl

Christian Ertl, Main Street Music Sax, Clarinet and Flute Instructor

Christian Ertl is a saxophonist based out of Philadelphia. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa where he began his musical study. He won many outstanding soloist awards throughout high school at Waukee High School including an outstanding soloist award at the 2018 Iowa Jazz Championships. He also won a Downbeat Student Music Award with his high school band in 2018. 

 

Christian attended Temple University where he attained a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Music Performance. While in college, he studied with world class musicians such as Dick Oatts, Tim Warfield Jr, Justin Faulkner, Jeb Patton, and Terell Stafford. In 2020, he was selected as the lead alto saxophonist in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra. In 2023, he won the collegiate division of the US Army Blues Solo Competition. He has also played with the award winning Temple University Jazz Band and has appeared on multiple BCM&D Records. 

 

During his career, he has had the pleasure of playing with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Dick Oatts, Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco, Terell Stafford, Sean Jones, Akiko Tsuruga, Scott Wendholt, Tedd Baker, and Tim Armacost. He has also played at venues such as the Village Vanguard, Rose Hall, Dizzy’s Club, the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, and various venues and festivals with many incredible guest artists.

 

Along with playing the saxophone, Christian is also highly proficient in playing the flute and clarinet. He is also an educator, composer, and arranger. He has taught private lessons of all ages and has also worked with large jazz ensembles. Chrisitian is a highly experienced performer as well as educator and teaches saxophone, flute and clarinet lessons for Main Street Music.
