
Alphonso Gonzalez
Alphonso Gonzalez is a musician, composer, and educator based in New Jersey. Alphonso has been playing and studying piano for over 10 years. Alphonso first began studying jazz piano at a young age before moving on to classical studies in high school and college. He has played piano professionally for various school musicals for several locations including Vineland High School, Cumberland Regional High School, The Landis Theater, and Cumberland County College. Some of his musical experiences include playing piano for Sister Act, Thirteen, The Addams Family, Hairspray, Sweet Charity, and High School Musical. Alphonso received his Bachelor's degree in music composition in 2020 and is currently working on his Master's degree in percussion performance at Rowan University under the direction of Dr. Fabio Oliveira. Alphonso has performed with a number of the university's ensembles including the Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Contemporary Music Ensemble, Rowan Brass Band, and Atlantic Brass Band. As an educator, Alphonso is the assistant director for both the Pep Band and Indoor Winds programs at Cumberland Regional High School. Prior to that, Alphonso has also taught marching band front ensembles at Pitman High School and Timber Creek High School and worked as an intern for "Play On, Philly" where he played piano for the program's dance studio. As a musician and composer, Alphonso is heavily influenced by music from other cultures such as Middle Eastern music, Latin American music, and Brazilian Samba and aims to create a unique fusion of these styles in his composition and playing.
